Prior to being sworn in as Common Pleas Judge on February 10, 2009, Judge Barbara Ansted held the position of Ottawa and Sandusky County Family Mediator for the Common Pleas and Juvenile Courts. Judge Barbara Ansted is a 1978 graduate of Pepperdine University College of Law (Juris Doctor), and a 1971 graduate of Wittenberg University (BA in sociology). She has been an attorney since 1978 in Fremont, Ohio with both a private practice and public employment. In 1996, she was trained as a Domestic Relations Mediator through the Lucas County Juvenile Court and has been mediating in various courts since that time. She was in private practice and a mediation partnership with Norman Solze until March 2005 when she closed her private practice and chose to devote her full attention to mediating family disputes.
Other positions she has held throughout her legal career: she was appointed in 1999 as an Acting Judge for County Court number two in Woodville, Ohio; appointed an Assistant Prosecutor for Sandusky County in 1985 until 1998; appointed by the Common Pleas Court as Administrator of the Bureau of Support and Court Referee in 1981 until 1985.
She is an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Gibsonburg, and has served on many community boards through the years. Currently she is a member of the Optimist Club of Fremont, Ohio and serves on the board of Homes/Casas Inc. an organization that provides low to moderate income housing in Sandusky and Seneca Counties.
She was married to Bill Ansted for 35 years, and resides on a farm in western Sandusky County with her son Andrew.
