Function

The Sandusky County Sanitary Engineer's office was created by the Board of County Commissioners to assist the Board in performing its' duties pursuant to Chapter 6103 (County Water Supply Systems) and Chapter 6117 (County Sewerage Systems), of the Ohio Revised Code. The Sanitary Engineer's office also performs other duties and services in relation to sanitational and environmental concerns.

The Sanitary Engineer's office is governed by Federal and State regulations promulgated by the United States and Ohio Environmental Protection Agencies and through the Board of County Commissioners.

In the area of Water Supply, the Sanitary Engineer's office presently operates and maintains a treatment facility outside of Fremont, Ohio, which serves the subvision of Shorewood, Ohio. It also provides technical supervision to the Village of Lindsey's water supply system.

In the area of Wastewater Treatment, the Sanitary Engineer's office presently operates and maintains two (2) small treatment and collection systems, operates and maintains the Sandusky Township Regional Sewer District, provides technical supervision to the Village of Lindsey's system, and is in charge of the collection system serving the area around the City of Fremont, Ohio.
